The A Side: A Day in The Life You will be expected to lead on projects across Virgin Music, harbouring responsibility for overseeing and managing the release of Virgin Music artist projects, both physically and digitally from inception to completion.
You will initiate, plan, and coordinate the creative marketing of the projects that you are assigned in full and oversee the projects of any marketing team members reporting into you.
This role will cover a broad range of musical genres, for example electronic, indie, alternative, pop, hip-hop and rap, across both UK domestic and international artists.
You will work closely with the Head of Marketing and the wider marketing team and will have complete responsibility for your own roster of artists. You will be expected to be proficient in all forms of marketing, encompassing digital and online, creators and influencers, as well as all traditional marketing avenues.
The person in this role needs to be creative and conscientious, reflecting the dual nature of the role, requiring an innovative and data-led approach to modern music marketing, as well as having a passion for music.
The B Side: Skills & Experience Be Organized & Analytical - Prepare strategically thought-out timelines and marketing plans for each project in conjunction with the Head of Marketing and wider teams
- Monitor campaigns, across sales, streaming and social tools to effectively manage marketing opportunities that may arise
- Report results accurately and evaluate their success, developing innovative strategies to achieve best performing results
- Utilise the latest various data tools to analyse and modify campaigns to achieve growth and best performing results
- Be aware of the latest trends, news, and updates in our industry and beyond to incorporate the best ideas into our marketing campaigns
- Be responsible for maintaining up-to-date budgets on each project, ensuring budgets are in line with contractually agreed marketing funds and communicated with artist management, with any overages agreed in writing
- Be responsible for the management of sensitive assets and securely storing them.
Be Creative & Innovative - Work with artists, managers, and creative partners to develop creative direction for the project, including but not limited to artwork and video commissioning, photo and video shoots, listening events, pop-up activations, social media content and digital asset creation
- Plan creative advertising campaigns and where relevant brief external media agencies regarding delivery of adverts and artwork for digital, outdoor, print and television campaigns
- Work with the marketing team to ensure cohesion of activities across campaigns.
Be Collaborative - Communicate with internal and external teams on relevant elements of campaigns and their progress, including organising and chairing meetings, and following up on action points raised
- Liaise with commercial teams on all project developments and supplying them with the tools they need to best sell our products i.e. comprehensive and informative pitches, POS/exclusives/D2C bundles/artwork and accurate sales notes
- Liaise with promo teams (either internal or external) on all artist promo runs including radio sessions, TV performances, press interviews, ensuring that costs are closely managed within budget and that the various team involved are briefed to efficiently organise travel and logistical arrangements as required
- Liaise with production teams, where required, to ensure releases are properly set up and all assets (audio, artwork, label copy) are submitted in the correct formats and in a timely manner, to spec and within budget
- Liaise with artist, management, and social teams to develop an artist’s audience and online presence
- Liaise with international teams to develop global strategies and solidify global budgets.
- Liaise with sync and brands teams to ensure fully briefed on all campaigns to seek out the best opportunities
- Liaise with live agents and promoters to ensure timelines and strategies are agreed in the context of live dates, and manage any tour requirements (e.g. stock), ticket buys, and potential pop-up events
- Ensure that by liaising with all aforementioned teams Virgin maximises all commercial, promotional, and marketing opportunities for our artists and labels
- Where relevant and required, management of developing team members, where responsibilities will include overseeing day-to-day output, training and development, task management, objective setting, demonstrating and encouraging effective communication and ensuring they maintain the highest possible standards of efficiency, creativity and collaboration within the team and across the company.
Person specification - Proven track record in a Marketing Manager / Senior marketing manager role within a record label or artist/label services company, with previous experience of managing and developing team members
- An understanding of the release and production process for both digital and physical releases
- Efficient and able to work independently to a high standard
- Ability to remain calm when working under pressure and to deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to deal with the routine tasks as well as the more challenging aspects of the role
- Relevant marketing and creative contacts
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience of digital and influencer marketing alongside social media strategy with a focus on performance tracking and data-driven decision-making, with a finger on the pulse of the latest social and influencer trends
- Experience in asset briefing and creation as well as copyrighting and proofreading
- Ideally a good working knowledge of campaign tools and technology (e.g. asset and visual creation (e.g. Canva, Photoshop), creator tools (e.g. co:brand, Trendpop), Microsoft suites (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), communication platforms (e.g. Slack, Zoom), CRM tools, audience tools (e.g. Chartmetric)
- Passion for music, contemporary culture and creative work relevant to Virgin’s roster e.g. social platforms, artwork and packaging design, photography, music videos, event concepts, etc.
