Senior Content Strategist

The Senior Content Strategist is a key role in the new 4Studio landscape, leading strategy, editorial and performance of their genre or area of focus.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

A true leader of a multifunctional team, striving to get the best performance from content to fulfil a variety of objectives across all social platforms. You’ll have ultimate accountability for your team’s output, as well as the responsibility for the success and growth of your area.

This role will lead the team for Channel 4.0, our youth-skewing social brand which was launched in 2022.

Starring some of the biggest and brightest names on the internet, Channel 4.0 combines thoughtful, authentic and innovative formats with playful chaos and boundless joy to reach young audiences serving up the content they love. It has already garnered millions of organic views and numerous industry awards and is still less than 2 years old.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic

You will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing data- and editorially-led strategies and content plans for Channel 4.0, across multiple platforms.

This will include accountability for the volume and type of content produced for each platform, to ensure your team and channels are hitting KPIs and driving optimum performance.

  • You will work hand in hand with our Digital Commissioning team to ensure the right content is published at the right time
  • You will be given a large degree of autonomy and the buck will often stop with you when it comes to making key decisions, and influencing others to align with your thinking
  • You will be adept at introducing new thinking and suggesting new ways of working for your team, to help drive performance
  • You’ll be the most senior point-person within 4Studio for anything to do with your genre/content area of responsibility. You’ll manage key stakeholders across the business, feeding back useful information and data to drive Channel 4.0 forward
  • You’ll be comfortable managing production and production budgets where required and working with Finance and BA to ensure processes and documentation are followed
  • You will be familiar with the type of content available on 4.0, and the roster of talent we use… as well as be familiar with, and take an interest in, potential talent and similar accounts. You will know how to talk to this audience and how to engage them in an authentic, compelling way. You will have the skills needed to attract audience to the content, and encourage them to keep coming back for more.

Performance

  • You will need to be able to use data to feed insights back to key stakeholders and leadership, manage relationships with Commissioners and Producers, and be seen as an expert within your area. You’ll show experience in utilising social measurement, reporting and competitor analysis tools to identify and super-serve audiences (preferably for organic and paid campaigns). You’ll be comfortable reviewing performance and selling in creative ideas to stakeholders at all levels across marketing, commissioning and other areas as needed
  • You’ll work with the other genre or channel leads to share learnings and a bit of healthy competition to make sure the portfolio of channels is the best in the business
  • You’ll have targets, but it will be up to you to work with your team on the best way to achieve and exceed them. You will work closely with your team to devise strategies and executions in line with 4Studio performance and marketing objectives, and will be adept at working in an agile manner to pivot when needed, and react to a rapidly changing social landscape
  • Demonstrate understanding of the optimisation of social content on YouTube to reach bigger and/or focused audiences. You’ll know why thumbnails, titles, metadata and tagging are as important as what’s in the content itself
  • You will understand how the different platform algorithms can impact performance, and know how to optimise content in the best possible way to extend reach and engagement.
  • You’ll be responsible for ensuring platform best practice is adhered to across all the accounts you manage
  • You’ll use performance data and insights to inform your strategy and content output Whether something has gone well or badly, you will be required to learn lessons from what has been done and be able to apply those lessons, so we keep on improving and share successes. You’ll be comfortable thinking innovatively and strategically about how to drive performance in new way (e.g., partnering with Talent or Partner accounts, thinking about when/how to deploy Paid Media etc).

Creative

  • You’ll manage the creative team who’ll be producing digital and social assets at volume to support Channel 4.0 programming
  • Your wider team will include production, community management, publishing, performance and reporting. You’ll need to know how to motivate the team to get the most out of them to work together to meet your targets
  • Yes it’s a cliché, but you’re a ‘social native’ and you know the difference between a hit and a miss, even at the idea stage. You’ll know your TikToks from your Tweets (Xs!), and understand behaviours of audiences online
  • We want to be seen as a cutting-edge brand. You must be abreast of developments in the world of social media and what the implications might be for us
  • You will need to have a good working relationship with Legal & Compliance. They are there to make sure we stay the right side of the line rather than to clip your wings. Channel 4 was Born Risky
  • You’ll have a great degree of influence as to the ‘what’ and ‘how’ you feed your social channels to meet your targets. This will include the level of support for each show and how to creatively execute strategies and RTBs
  • You’ll be comfortable selling in creative ideas to stakeholders and planning and executing ideas with your team and the wider production team when required.

Leadership

  • You’ll have experience of motivating teams to generate ideas that lead to millions of organic social views – preferably using TV shows as a creative base to work from
  • You’ll be comfortable as a critic, giving feedback on creative work to improve quality and performance
  • You’ll take your role as a manager seriously and always strive to get the best from your teams. You won’t be fazed by workflow processes, data systems and deadlines
  • You will be required to manage the competing demands of key stakeholders
  • Cool under pressure and excellent powers of persuasion are required.

CONDITIONS

  • Most work will be done during office hours, but there may be occasions that require working at evenings, weekends and bank holidays. You will get time off in lieu for doing so
  • While we embrace agile working, you will be primarily expected to work from the office for a minimum of 60% of the working week. If you are on duty outside these hours you are welcome to work from the toilet or the moon as long as you get the job done
