BBC Studios are looking for dynamic Researchers to work on the upcoming series of the nation’s number one sports quiz, A Question of Sport. 
Job Introduction

BBC Studios are looking for dynamic researchers to work on the upcoming series of the nation’s number one sports quiz, A Question of Sport. The successful applicants will work as part of a team and will report directly to the programme’s Assistant Producer and Producer. Successful applicants will need to display a versatile range of skills in all areas of production and experience of working on programme relevant output.

The Researchers will work closely with other members of the production team, coming up with ideas and content for studio, sourcing locations and contributors, shooting and editing, dealing with talent and shaping the next series of the ever changing TV show.

Role Responsibility

Researchers on A Question of Sport are required to create compelling content, both for the show and for online, including:- researching and producing the graphic content of the programme, going out on location and filming short VTs and editing packages together for use in the programme and writing questions and question scripts for the programme.

They must contribute to the creative treatment of an item or programme whilst ensuring consistency in content, quality and style.  Identifying new approaches and angles to content and contribute ideas which are feasible and consistent with editorial intentions, using time and resources efficiently, in order to achieve maximum productivity within deadlines and budgets.

The Researchers must conscientiously assess the accuracy of the information researched and produce accurate summaries of extensive research information including detailed research records for reference and produce detailed briefing notes.   It is vital that they keep abreast of major sporting stories and potential guests and will need to deal and liaise with agents, celebrities, contributors, colleagues and contacts both in and outside the BBC on a daily basis.


The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate(s) will have:

  • TV research experience including; suggesting and researching creative, programme ideas and briefs and of securing access to guests, contributors and locations. Experience of VT editing.
  • Knowledge of the programme and the rounds within it, understanding the need for balance between entertainment and sporting content
  • Experience of self-shooting on location. Must be able to demonstrate and provide TV broadcast examples of work they have shot.
  • Experience of using Final Cut Pro and or Adobe Premiere is essential whilst an in-depth knowledge and experience of using Photoshop/After Effects is a benefit.
  • Demonstrable interest in quizzes. Demonstrable understanding of different types of quiz shows and methods of game play
  • An ability to generate imaginative and compelling round ideas for the programme
  • Good communication skills and the ability to establish positive working relations with a wide range of contributors, celebrities and agents.
  • Knowledge and interest in a wide range of sports is essential.
  • An understanding of issues surrounding the use of archive footage.
  • Thorough knowledge of a wide range of information and research sources.
  • Effective team-working and interpersonal skills essential. Experience of working alone or in a team under supervision, maintaining good working relationships.
