Development Producer

This pivotal role requires a strategic individual who is adept at mining the rich archives of News UK for compelling content that aligns with the development goals and priorities of our licensing business and our TV & film production partners.  

Your role: Based in London, this is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking and inspired creative executive with experience in TV and film, as well as the development of scripted or unscripted programs. 


The Development Producer will be tasked to research, identify and present the most exciting materials from News UK’s existing library and current programming to our TV & film studio production partners for development.  


Day to day you will:

  • Conduct in-depth research within the News UK archives to unearth material with significant potential for development into series or films

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of our studio partners development priorities by collaborating closely with relevant teams

  • The ideal candidate will adeptly interpret creative direction from studio and production partners to pinpoint material that meets their specific objectives

  • Establish and maintain a systematic process for presenting selected material to partners This includes crafting persuasive treatments/pitches that succinctly highlight the material's potential and offering insightful recommendations on adaptation strategies.

  • Forge strong connections with News UK's newsrooms and editorial teams to swiftly identify compelling stories suitable for development

  • Undertake analysis and provide detailed reports on clearance issues, actively supporting the rights acquisition process as needed.


What we are looking for from you: 

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in content development with a significant tenure within either a TV broadcast, cable network, Studio, or established independent production company

    • Must have a working knowledge of global trends in TV as well as a keen understanding of storytelling and casting as it applies to the creation of winning, successful programming

    • Must have a demonstrated ability to serve as a creative strategist in a highly entrepreneurial, fast growing, and collaborative business environment, as well as a track record at selecting and developing material which is trendy, innovative and compelling

    • The ability to function in a complex, fast-paced and demanding environment, an entrepreneurial drive and passion for the business, the content and the audience

    • The ability to think creatively and encourage this type of thinking among team members; an imaginative, innovative mind-set with strong combination of creative sensibility and keen business acumen

    • An excellent writer with strong communication skills and the ability to present his/her views in a clear and compelling manner

    • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, including the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment as well as diverse constituencies and both creative and business personality types.
