Broadcast Support Engineer
Timeline Television is looking for a proactive & highly focused individual to join us as a Broadcast Support Engineer. 

The Engineer's duties will be to support Racing UK operations and other Timeline clients and activities in Ealing. On occasions, the engineer will also need to work at other Timeline locations to cover programme, project or maintenance needs.

The Engineer is expected to have high levels of ability in the maintenance, alignment, modification and operation of the wide range of broadcast equipment and systems deployed in all Timeline business environments. The Engineer is required to work at the highest level of technical complexity under programme and/or operational pressures.

Reasonable operational flexibility is expected when required.

Main Duties:
  • Maintenance and operation of equipment in Studios, MCR, CAR, Edit suites and associated technical areas.
  • Ensure that technical faults are cleared, or alternative ways of meeting requirements are identified and implemented promptly.
  • Undertake work as necessary to ensure that the requirements of safety regulations are complied with and that appropriate records are kept in the areas for which he/she is responsible.
  • Work closely with project managers and production teams to ensure that operational needs are effectively and efficiently met, and devise new ways of achieving those needs by means of technical innovation.
  • Ensure that electronic equipment in the area is maintained and aligned to defined standards and is modified and updated as required.
  • Accurate line-up of vision monitoring facilities.
  • Configure and monitor incoming and outgoing lines.
  • Able to solder and use a range of hand tools to repair cables and electronic equipment.
  • First line maintenance of EVS XT and IP Director systems and hardware.
  • Clear understanding of the fundamentals of file-based editing workflow.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and re-configure IT and TCP/IP based network systems.
  • Involvement with modifications and minor refurbishment projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Training and qualifications relevant to broadcast engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience of vision, sound, routing, server, editing, communication and computer systems as they relate to a television studio environment technologies.
  • The ability to make critical assessment of television pictures and waveforms as necessary.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and remain calm under pressure.
  • A positive, enthusiastic manner with an ability to react tactfully and sympathetically to requests from operational and production staff is essential.
  • Customer awareness and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Methodical: Demonstrates clear logical thinking in fault-finding and problem solving. Able to distinguish between important and irrelevant information.

Professional Experience:

  • Experience of a support role in a Broadcast environment.
