Senior Mastering Operator - Technical Operations

Technicolor - London has an amazing opportunity for a Senior Mastering Operator.

This role involves the master creation across all deliverables formats, colour spaces and resolutions, as well as the QC of original theatrical versions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • In general, keep Mastering Operations operating at a high level of reliability and efficiency to ensure client deadlines are met.
  • Reviewing the forthcoming Production schedule; ensuring the correct information is included in the assigned work orders, addressing any queries with the Production Manager or with Client Services. 
  • Creating mastering projects for Theatrical and Broadcast post production deliverables including pre-screening DCPs and DCI compliant OV generation.
  • Loading pre-existing project templates to create version files for projects as specified by the scheduling producer.
  • Creating and formatting drives to output material, and ingesting data from physical assets when assigned to IO tasks. 
  • Providing editorial assistance to DI and Broadcast team .
  • Key asset management.
  • Set up and drive high profile client attended reviews.
  • Establish templates for transcoding and undertake transcoding tasks as required by the production team.
  • Front line technical support for Mastering Operations which requires knowledge of video and audio systems (hardware and software) and videotape machine operation.
  • Quality Checking of Masters and Master Files, so a knowledge of theatrical and broadcast standards is required. This checking is not just technical assessment but is also subjective assessment; looking for image artefacts that may not have been picked up in the final checks of a master by the Colourist or Flame artist.
  • Workflow troubleshooting and reviewing of processes to ensure efficiency and where necessary recommend improvements.
  • Report faulty equipment to relevant internal and external support staff / contractors.
  • Maintain documentation for systems and prepare documentation for freelance crew using Technicolor Mastering systems.

Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience

To be successful in this role you will have the following attributes:

  • Previous experience working in Mastering or editorial film processes.
  • Deep knowledge of video technologies such as 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, ATMOS.
  • Understanding of colour science theory and practice.
  • Extensive experience mastering in R&S Clipster or similar mastering device.  
  • Understanding of Transkoder advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of a technical Operations based environment as well as knowledge of encoding and transcoding compression methods and formats.
  • Working understanding of advanced IMF workflows, including Netflix specifics.
  • Experience working closely with Grade/ Editorial teams.
  • Thorough understanding of video industry metadata standards.
  • Able to work flexibly including shifts, unsocial hours, nights and additional hours as required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of FCP
  • Basic knowledge of Baselight advantageous
  • Intermediate IT Skills with strong knowledge of Mac OS and (ideally) a basic knowledge of Linux
