Media Systems Engineer

We are looking for a Media Systems Engineer to join us.


You'll be responsible for delivering networks of video recording servers, logging systems and edit suites to major production companies and broadcast clients around the world.

ABOUT THE COLLECTV

The Collectv was established in 2014, to provide systems integration, training, media management and support for broadcast, outside broadcast and post production systems.


In 2015 and 2017 we were awarded Emmys for Outstanding Technical Team Remote at the Sochi Winter Olympics and the Rio Olympics as part of NBC’s team.


Our current experience spans the likes of Sky Sports’ Darts events, Formula One for Gearhouse Broadcast, ongoing support for Whisper Films, location services for the British Open Golf coverage for CTV & NBC and fixed rig shows such as Educating Greater Manchester for Twofour and 24hours in Police Custody for NEP & The Garden.

ABOUT THE ROLE


Job Title: Media Systems Engineer

Reports to: Technical Director

Based: Kingston/West London with worldwide travel

Job Purpose

This is an engineering position with operational elements, where you will be required to work by yourself and as part of a team delivering networks of video recording servers, logging systems and edit suites to major production companies and broadcast clients around the world.


Responsibilities will include engineering and operational duties on-site and maintenance and setup duties at base.


The position involves:

  • Building and managing video server workflows, often built around EVS equipment
  • Monitoring and optimising the performance of media servers and storage systems, non-linear edit suites (Avid, Adobe), and the processing delivery facilities
  • Providing first line (and sometimes remote) system support to address technical faults in a timely manner
  • Guiding media managers, operators and production staff through operational scenarios
  • Completing routine maintenance and regular system checks of our supported systems
  • Evaluating new software and hardware
  • Creating and documenting new media workflows and guidance for new users.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To install and operate video server systems on international projects
  • To advise and manage clients on technical workows
  • To assist in the preparation of equipment and planning of projects
  • General maintenance and identication of faults with equipment
  • To set up and assist in outside broadcast and xed rig environments
  • To provide remote support both online and by telephone of our national and international systems.

 

ABOUT YOU

Required Knowledge, Experience & Skills


Essential:

  • Experience with building and maintaining computer systems
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of networking principals, (Routing, Switching, the OSI model etc.)
  • Technical reporting and drawing skills
  • Drivers licence.

 

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with EVS Broadcast Equipment, and integration with 3rd party applications
  • Knowledge of NLEs (Avid, Premiere etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and virtual machines
  • Experience of shared storage systems and media asset management
  • Media management experience
  • Cisco qualications (CCNA/CCNP).

DETAILS

Travel:

Due to the nature of the position there will be the necessity for travel, both abroad and locally, so in addition to the above, the ability to be totally flexible is a key requisite of this role.
