Europe Editor for English Speaking Audiences

Arte, the European culture channel  require a Europe Editor for English Speaking Audiences.


This role will be a 13 month full time position based in Arte's headquarters in Strasbourg, France.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Overview

The Arte Europe Project includes a range of programmes subtitled in English on Arte.TV apps and smart TV.  The project has received support from the European Union.

  

Core duties of the Editor:

  • To check, by sampling, the linguistic and technical quality of the English subtitles available across the 400 hours' worth of programmes put online throughout the year
  • To draw up and execute the schedule of publications on the various platforms; to identify the programmes to be highlighted and to group together programmes in categories
  • To prepare material for publication and programme promotion: selecting images and copywriting programme blurb and titles
  • To handle the community management of the offering: to manage English language publications on social networks; to moderate comments and maintain a dialogue with users
  • To prepare communication materials to promote the offering: newsletter, press release, etc.
  • To develop and implement initiatives to promote the range of programmes aimed at English-speaking audiences
  • To analyse the viewing figures for the programmes aimed at English speakers. 

ABOUT YOU
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Master's degree in digital communications or journalism or comparable qualification
  • Professional experience in English in digital publications, communications or journalism
  • Perfect command of the English language, both oral and written; the highest standard of English spelling, grammar, and syntax
  • Very good knowledge of the French and/or German language
  • Knowledge of Spanish, Polish or Italian would be an advantage.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of English-speaking audiences, their expectations and behaviour associated with internet use
  • Knowledge of the use of specific software packages: CMS, publication interfaces, search engines, photo editing
  • Knowledge of specific tools: publication on social networks, SEO, analytics
  • The ability to work in a team
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work under considerable time pressure and a fast reaction time
  • Discipline and organisational skills
  • Independence and versatility
  • Basic knowledge of communication and media law
  • A strong affinity for ARTE content.
